This summer the Island Institute will publish Holding Ground: The Best of Island Journal, 1984-2004. A look back at the Island Institute’s signature publication, this 270-page book will feature memorable articles, artwork and photography from the 20 volumes of Island Journal. Editors are Philip Conkling and David Platt; the designer is Paige Parker. Peter Ralston, longtime art director of Island Journal, assisted in the selection of photography and artwork.

Due to the complexity of this project, Holding Ground will appear later than Island Journal normally does. Members of the Island Institute can expect to receive their copies (which will replace the regular Island Journal for 2004) in late June. The book will go on sale at Maine bookstores and at Archipelago, the Island Institute’s retail store in Rockland, at the same time.
