Elizabeth Lovell, a senior guard at North Haven Community School, became the first girl to score 1,000 career points in the school’s 80-year history; she finished with 1,094. The Story of the Sea Glass, written by Anne Westcott Dodd of Brunswick and illustrated by Mary Beth Owens of Walpole, is the winner of the first Golden Trap Award. The award is presented annually by the Maine Island Libraries Association for a picture book that meets the theme of the year. For 2003, the theme is “Life By the Ocean.” Ten books that were published in the past ten years were nominated this year and judged in April by students in grades kindergarten to grade four from Maine island schools. The Story of the Sea Glass was published by Down East Books of Camden in 1999.

Ten islanders in the high school class of 2003 have been awarded MBNA scholarships.
