To the editor:

I enjoy reading your excellent publication during the summer months which my wife and I spend in our summer home on Chebeague Island. The content of the newspaper is both informing, and entertaining and, even after some 34 summers on Chebeague I usually learn something new.

However I was surprised and disappointed by the photo caption in your August issue which, under the heading “All-Institute Wedding,” described a most distinguished looking groom and best man as “skirted up Scottish style for the occasion.”

With your deep respect for Maine’s fine traditions I would hope you might show an equal respect for the traditions of others. Scots, and their descendants, when wearing the kilt, are not “skirted up” for any occasion. They are wearing the traditional garb of their heritage, and splendid they look in it too.
