The Maine Lobster Promotion Council, working with area lobstermen, is unveiling a new event to help support the lobster industry.

The event is called Maine Lobster Harvest Days and will be held throughout October and November.

The fall was picked for the harvest days because most Maine lobster is actually harvested in the fall, according to a press release from the promotion council.

To celebrate this fall harvest season, local communities are working with harvesters and dealers to bring lobsters direct from the wharf to the customer. Each community event will be for one day only.

Bags will be provided to transport lobsters. Those traveling longer distances or who will not be going home right away should bring a cooler, freezer packs and damp towels or newspapers to lay over the lobsters. Remember that lobsters cannot survive in fresh water, so don’t use ice unless it is carefully sealed in plastic.  Cooked lobsters should also be chilled if you don’t plan to eat them right away.

Many locations accept only cash, so make sure to bring some with you.  Lobster prices will be announced and posted prior to the events. See www.lobsterfrommaine.com for specific details about each event.

The event will be on October 10 at the Port Clyde Fishermen’s Dock, Co-op Rd., Port Clyde from noon to 5 p.m.

It will be held on October 11 in these communities: Bath, at Gilmore’s Seafood, 131 Court St., from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Chebeaugue Island; Scarborough, at Bayley’s Lobster Pound, 9 Ave. 6, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Stonington, at the Stonington Fish Pier, 9 Atlantic Ave., from 1 p.m. until the lobsters are gone.

It will be celebrated on October 17 at the Five Islands Lobster Company, Georgetown, from 10 a.m. until the lobsters are gone.
