What a marvelous issue! I mean the one for December 2008-January 2009. So full of human interest. So readable. I always enjoy reading Working Waterfront-now more than ever.

I was especially moved by Eva Murray’s elegy for Christopher Whitaker, the young Matinicus lobsterman lost at sea (“It could have been any of us: The search for missing Matinicus lobsterman”), and by Sandra Dinsmore’s tribute to Roger Duncan, seaman and islander (“Duncan’s voyage as chronicler of the coast continues onward”), along with Mr. Duncan’s own serio-comic tale of foul anchoring at Vinalhaven (“Ploughing up Vinalhaven”). These are my favorites; but every page has something readable, and the almost never-ending list of contributors has its own kind of quiet eloquence.

Thank you! My compliments, as a retired editor, to writers and editors alike.
