Maililani Bailey, after 20 plus years of service to the Swan’s Island Library, decided to take a break from service this summer. Library staff and friends feted her on Aug. 14 with cake and reminiscences. Bailey was instrumental in building the library collection and restoring an old schoolhouse on Swan’s Island into the current library.
Candis Joyce, the current director of the library, thanked Bailey for all her contributions to the library and the children of Swan’s Island. Joyce remembered that Bailey did story hour for her own children, a tradition Joyce now carries on.
During the evening’s festivities, Bailey recounted many unique stories from the library.
The Library will install a special collections case in honor of all of Maili Bailey’s hard work and dedication.
