To the editor:

I happened to be sitting at the table one morning and my fiancĂ© was looking through the WW. He asked if I recognized the people in your Dec. 2005/Jan. 2006 edition on page 22. I glanced at the picture and saw a scene from my childhood flash before my eyes. There stood my father in white t-shirt and the many other members of my family (cousins, uncles and brothers) at an ever familiar boat launching. My father, Burton Carter, and brother Fern built many boats in the Carter boat shops in West Waldoboro, some together and others separately. I can’t recall which boat was being launched, but was happy to see it. My father would often speak of Red Boutilier and told me of the many photographs he had taken through the years. He told me to look him up and see what he had for family photos. He has since passed away, but I was glad to hear the Penobscot Marine Museum has some of these photographs. I will make a trip to see them when the museum opens to show my children. I loved watching the pride on my father’s face as yet another piece of family history was set to sail. Thank you for the reminder and I will try to find copies of these treasured pictures when I get to the museum.
