The Island Institute has been obliged to cut back its popular Island Lodging Program because the sole funder is unable to continue support.
However, the current level of support for medical emergencies will be extended through Dec. 31, 2006. Other requests for lodging support through this program, the Institute told island residents in a recent letter, can no longer be accommodated.

The application procedure has not changed. Participants must call the Institute during business hours with the following information:

In case of emergencies when the Institute is closed, individuals should save their receipts from participating hotels and submit them to Sally Perkins, the program coordinator.

Housing options for Penobscot Bay islanders include The Navigator, The Trade Winds Motor Inn and the Captain Lindsey House, all in Rockland. Downeast Islanders may stay at the Colonial Travelodge in Ellsworth.

For information, please call Sally Perkins at the Island Institute at (207) 594-9209, ext. 103 or email sperkins@islandinstitute.org
