Monhegan Boat Line’s venerable wood vessel LAURA B, built in 1943 for the U.S. Army, is celebrating 50 years as Monhegan’s principal connection to the mainland. Before going to work for Monhegan Boat Line in the early 1950s she served as a World War II patrol boat and transporter, followed by several years transporting lobsters from Vinalhaven to Boston and New York City. The LAURA B. service to Monhegan operates from Port Clyde.
