To the editor:

I am writing in response to Sally Noble’s article entitled “Runway dispute affects North Haven air service” which appears on page 15 of your March issue.

In mentioning emergency air service, Noble refers to LifeFlight as “this government-funded program.” That reference is completely false; LifeFlight of Maine is a private non-profit organization. It was founded and is operated jointly by Eastern Maine Healthcare in Bangor and Central Maine Healthcare in Lewiston, both non-profit organizations themselves.

The LifeFlight Foundation, also non-profit, was founded in 2003 solely for the purpose of providing financial assistance to LifeFlight of Maine, the state’s only licensed and fully accredited Scene Response Air Ambulance.
