News travels fast, and so do lobsters. LobsterTales.org, the Island Institute’s lobster tagging and pilot education program is making headlines with news of the destinations and dinner plates where Maine’s lobsters have landed. This first summer fishing season for the LobsterTales.org project has been noticed on national and local levels.

The Portland Press Herald started off the media flurry in June. The Bangor Daily News applauded the program’s benefits to the involved Vinalhaven lobstermen, as well as in the fields of education, communication and commerce. A July 24 New York Times feature in the Technology section pondered where a lobster dinner may end up, and found that the lobstermen realize their “work has an effect that extends beyond their small island.” And, Nora Warren, manager of the Vinalhaven Fisherman’s Co-op, was interviewed live on CNN Headline News about the project on Aug. 7.

In the September issue of Down East, the editor-in-chief muses on “Tracking the Bugs,” in his commentary, which features LobsterTales.org among other things Maine.
