Commencement exercises for Islesboro Central School’s class of 2002 were
held June 9. This year’s main speaker was John Mitchell, an Islesboro native
who graduated from ICS 50 years ago and pursued a high-profile career in
publishing before retiring to the island in 1990. Mitchell exhorted the graduates to
appreciate their island history and community. Jeffrey Lewis, an Islesboro
Central School fourth grader, spoke of life’s mysterious unknowns with an
articulate wisdom beyond his years. The high school and community band
performed the graduates’ processional and recessional, the high
school/community chorus sang “Stand As One” and “Down That Road” and Mary
Louise Czenkusch performed the song “Travelin'”. Class Valedictorian is Cati
Delaney, and Salutatorian is Alexandra Harkins. Other graduates were Elan
Rolerson and Tim Zlotkowski.
